a yin yoga workshop series with teacher trainer dhugal meachem

saturdays (nov 5 & nov 26) at the sir arthur conan doyle ctr, edinburgh, u.k

why yin is (and you are) different

this workshop will challenge you to investigate the why of how you practice or teach, and ask questions that may not have occurred to you to consider, so that you can truly realise your own practice or teaching with clarity and confidence.

this is also a celebratory workshop: a celebration of the unique anatomy that is you. we often say we are different... here i want to show you that your anatomy truly is unique... and celebrate it!

in this 2 workshop series, we dive into what makes yin a different form of yoga and why you should practice, how you should practice and what you need to know it to practice or teach it well.

a deeply functional practice

yin (and yoga) has become incredibly popular over the last few years. yin's long held yin yoga poses stress and stimulate the body's tissues in a unique way. to be able to gain the full benefit of yin, dhugal will share you the fundamentals, the building blocks: form & function - and these fundamentals will influence all your vinyasa yoga, hatha yoga, even meditation.

attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about dhugal's upcoming edinburgh yin yoga and variable anatomy teacher training, 2023.

critical knowledge for all yoga teachers

i know when i started teaching yoga I never expected I would become an anatomy or yin specialist! but when I found my teacher and had yin explained to me thoroughly, everything changed. i'd like you to have the same knowledge. yin yoga works on fascial tissue. everyone knows that. but.... how to do that is the tricky thing.

so. let's begin!

in this workshop series, i will share with you the most important distinction to make when thinking about yin.

form...what are you trying to achieve? is it a shape, a pose... or is it something else?

yoga today is very goal orientated. i want to refocus your goals around what yoga is really about, finding peace and equanimity in your heart & mind. this is done by letting go of how yoga poses should look and becoming an expert in how they feel.

function: yin is simple... but profound

there are less than 30 poses. poses are held a long time. and i'm gonna show you how you can begin to know what is the intention of yin! it is not rocket science. in our time we will dive right in so that you know what is supposed to happen during a yin practice.

what you'll learn

one - function: a non-muscular practice

discover why we practice slowly, gently, why we hold long and why we don't engage muscles, what other tissues (and bodily aspects) we are working with. yin is unique.

two - form: how we practice

we have differing personalities, are emotionally different.... and physically different (differing hair color, heights and weights, etc) and much more. this difference runs deep. a way of doing a yoga pose - where you place your hands and feet - may be good for one person BUT be harmful or disastrous for another. come see what i mean and set your practice free. come learn the anatomy of difference.

three - qi!

i am a qualified acupuncturist as well as yoga teacher trainer. learn direct from me what qi is and how you can think about it in your practice, in your life. balance your emotions, your mind & your body.

Emma

It has been so good to study with you and I look forward to more in the future! I think back to when I first started with you in 2018 and can see how much I have changed and grown, so much of that is due to the practice and what I learn through studying with you
- thank you.

The depth of anatomy, and variable anatomy specifically has changed my Life perception in the most positive way... I feel I can create an environment that is safe, adaptable, and encouraging people to get to know themselves better.

My Variable Anatomy/Yin Yoga course with Dhugal Meachem completely changed my concepts of body, exercise, experience, health, practice, yoga, medicine, world, and life. I take everything I learnt and experienced with me in my own practice and recovery, everyday. I felt and still feel improvement from a 4 year-old injury I thought was unchangeable before knowing these functional Yin techniques.
