remember quiet

throw yourself into the practice and theory of meditation. studying both the modern science of meditation & the tradition of dhyāna (坐禪), learn to just be.

in a stressed-out world, being complex is encouraged... is even easier. this course is a balance. the meditating mind is not complex - it is the opposite. and therein lies its power, its potential.

this program is open to all.

10 weeks of step-by-step training

you will receive a total of 5hrs of instruction each week over a total of 10 weeks. these are in 2 parts: a lecture and a practice.

this training will be systematic, inspired by studying both contemporary research on the power of sitting and the thousand-year-old taoist philosophy of sitting... just sitting.

there is much in common.

curriculum

there is no better time to find space in our lives. meditation is often not done or it is mystified... but there is nothing to learn really past basic technique. you may not always enjoy it as meditation takes us out of our habitual patterns and habits. but that misses the point. meditation is not designed to be fun. neither is it supposed to be hell. instead, it is a life skill designed to give you mental space however that comes.

meditation is the foundation of many modern approaches to mental health; addiction recovery, depression, ocd/add, etc... it is fabulous to get to know it better, and I invite you in. someone you know or teach will benefit greatly from it - including you.

repeat. repeat. repeat

each week you will be given several 30-minute guided meditation practices, each with a different approach.

you must do your meditation five times a week. this grows habit, skill and builds awareness. at first, it will seem strange, difficult, foreign. but as time passes this will change.

if you are looking for a certificate for this course, you must complete all of the course hours. this includes both lectures and practices.

learn technique

there are many ways of approaching meditation. they are all great. we will focus on the simplest...awareness.

progress and awareness arrive by simply noting what is happening in your mind. though at first glance, crude...when you shine your mind with the light of awareness, the implications of what you experience can be profound, view-altering, or just relaxing.

go deep. not broad.

each week's meditation will build on the experience of the last. what at first seems either impossible or boring (total opposites) will, as you ease into it, become familiar, even comfortable.

with deepening practice, your mind and your emotions settle, you find clarity, a blurring of complete subjectivity and a good dose of compassion.

weekly live lectures

feel as if you're in a live class with me! these sessions will make it easy to study on your own and set the tone and focus for each week.

get your questions answered live or in our group chat, watch later or again and again. join with your laptop, phone, or tablet.

with practice to do 5 times after each lecture, you have lots to do. play everything from your laptop, or load the practices to your phone or tablet and take them wherever you go.

a webcam is helpful for live sessions. it is nice to see each other.

course reading & journaling

along with the lectures and practice, you will be assigned two books to read: one on the science of meditation, and another on the traditional approach to meditation. reading is there to enrich the context in which we study and enhance your awareness of topics and ideas we practice and learn about.

lastly, you will be offered a journaling framework for each week in the course manual. journaling provides an opportunity to see progress, change and objectivity in an often emotional landscape. it can be powerful and insightful.

what students say

Bob - UK

"I do like your teaching style.  These are not just sweet words. You have a good combination of intensity in your delivery, interest in engaging all of your students... and a slightly self effacing humour."

Yves - Thailand

"I didn't think I would like online learning. But I have just finished our morning session and surprisingly I found out that I’ve missed some important points! So I am listening again...wonderful!"

Tessa - UK

" You make learning fun. You make it calm and collective. I never feel anxious or silly for asking questions and you invite a vulnerability to people that makes them more open to learning and seeing things from a different point of view by explaining them in ways we would understand."

Wendy - Australia

"What keeps me coming back is the quality of the class content. It is top quality and not airy fairy whimsical stuff."
