10 Modules of the Functionally Informed Curriculum:

Over the course of 10 months, we’ll delve into the following fundamental practices & theory base on my three pillars of health & longevity: 

Jing (physical),

Qi (energetic),

Shen (psycho-spiritual).

Module 1: Intro to Functional Yin Yoga

  • This module provides an overview of how Yin Yoga can be adapted and applied in to any body who enters a yoga room - and we begin with you! I introduce the anatomical and fundamental principles every teacher needs to practice.

 

Module 2: The Thigh & Theory of Qi

  • This module delves into the principles and theories behind using Yin Yoga as a healing modality from a Chinese Medicine perspective. We also focus on how hip opening poses taught in most studios can be good for some, but terrible for others.

 

Module 3: Theory of Pain & Healing / Intro to the Spine 

  • Students learn about the theory of pain and its role in how we respond to yoga poses, exploring how Yin Yoga can influence  and support healing and regulation. We also turn to look at each of our unique spines.

 

Module 4: Backbends and Forward Folds & Breaking the Rules

  • This module covers the core of many yoga practices - forward folds and backbends offering insights into how each of our individual yoga practices can be met in any class. We look at how we can liberate ourselves from alignment rules in yoga. We also look at the muscles of the torso.

 

Module 5: Twists and Assists

  • Students are introduced to the concept of assists in yoga. How do we perform these when we know everyone has a unique bone anatomy? We also look at twists and the integration of our pelvis and spine.

 

Module 6: Fascia, the Shoulder, 3 Views of Reality

  • This module explores the science of fascia. We also now look at the variable anatomy of the shoulder (so many people get shoulder injuries in yoga). We also look at the opportunity of the Daoist philosophy - flowing with nature.

 

Module 7: Core, Props & the Dao De Jing

  • Students learn about and dispel myths around core workouts and how they can be better practiced and more effective. We have our first props workshop and look at the core Daoist text - the Dao De Jing.

 

Module 8: Your Upper Body & Intro to Chinese Medicine

  • This module focuses closing out our understanding of the variable anatomy of the upper body. We now dive into Chinese Medicine theory as a powerful tool for longevity, happiness and health, incorporating Chinese channel theory into how we look at health.

 

Module 9: Bones & Joints, Qi

  • Students explore how Yin yoga is a powerful practice for not only muscular health, but also bones and joints. So many people in this world have joint issues (think back pain). Yin is a highly effective practice if you know how to use it.  We now look at a more advanced understanding of Qi.

 

Module 10: Yin Yoga Sequencing, Props 2 & Teaching Homework

  • This module covers the art of sequencing Yin Yoga classes with a functional approach, considering pacing, poses, and approaches that support anyone who could walk into your class.

In order to attain your 200hr Functional Yin Yoga teaching certificate, you must do the following:

  • Be proactive and engage in the community

  • Complete all homework assignments
  • Teach 2 classes and submit teaching reports in a timely manner
